The Parks Branch will be starting its weed control program from June 1st to June 4th.
The following parks will receive the application of an herbicide if weather and wind conditions are favorable:
Linda Schaefer Park, Rick Unger Park, Larry Nelson Park, Larry Erber Park, Wally Davis Park, Neil Wagner Park. Signage will be placed at the entrances to parks that spraying is or has taken place.
The herbicide used to control weeds is called Par lll. Par lll is able to selectively target broadleaf weeds while not harming any other plants or turf. This herbicide is used on all athletic fields and surrounding areas, parks, and Central St. boulevards.
Par III is made up of 3 active ingredients: mecoprp, 2.4-D and dicamba; all 3 of these substances have been approved by the Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) of Health Canada. PMRA has determined there is no evidence these substances are harmful to humans, animals, and the environment when used responsibly in the manner they are intended for.
